The Difference Between a Latte and a Mocha

What is the Difference Between a Latte and a Mocha?

Cafés have an expansive menu of drink options, and sometimes these options can get confusing. As the name implies, the Dilettante Mocha Café is known for its mocha drinks, but it may not be clear why a mocha is different from a latte or a frappe.

The two drinks can be easily confused due to the similar flavors they share. Both of these drinks are made with espresso as a primary ingredient and have key differences that set themselves apart.

Mochas

The defining feature of the mocha is the inclusion of chocolate. This drink is a variant of a latte but is made with less milk. This creates a mocha drink much more potent than a traditional mocha, providing more caffeine per sip.

These drinks are often made with arabica coffee beans, which have a fruity and chocolatey flavor by themselves. This paired with chocolate, and the resulting flavor is exceptional. Mochas give a rich, velvety and fruity chocolate taste and are loved by many.

Lattes

A latte, on the other hand, is an Italian drink that combines espresso and steamed milk. A latte is the lightest coffee drink available at most cafés, leveraging its espresso for additional milk.

The light and pleasant latte is a popular coffee drink for those who aren’t interested in a surplus of caffeine. Instead, most lattes are paired with sweet flavors to move further away from the bitter notes of coffee and take on an entirely new taste.

At the Dilettante Mocha Café, our staff works hard to accommodate every drink preference. Visitors can even customize their mocha drink through Dilettante’s chocolate scale. The scale shows four different chocolate blends with their associated cacao values. A customer can choose any chocolate flavor to include in their mocha drink.

Alternatively, for those who want a more subtle drink, Dilettante has several latte options. Visit and enjoy a regular latte, Caramel Latte, a Spice Chai Latte, or a Caramel Latte Frappe.

Alongside these options, customers also have a variety of hot chocolates, teas, coffees, and other drinks to choose from. Visit a Dilettante Mocha Café and discover a new favorite flavor.
